My school has 86% of its students receiving free lunches! Our families are needy, and often lack technology at home to help support their children in today's digital society. They are five and six year olds with a hunger for learning and are excited to learn how to read. In South Florida, we are a melting pot of cultures, and through using these iPads, the students will have the opportunity to learn how to listen and respond to stories, as well as play educational games that will help them learn how to read and perform math functions. With today's Common Core, these are essential skills that the students need to ensure that they are successful in years to come. I want all of my students to have every opportunity available to them, now and always.
