I teach at a rural school, our school is about 60% Native American. My students are eager to learn, and soak learning up. They come to kindergarten from very rough circumstances. In their communities domestic violence and gangs are often the norm rather than the exception. Often my students do not know where they will be from one night to the next, or what tomorrow will bring. I have students who in kindergarten, get themselves and siblings up and ready for school. Many do not have books or writing pens and paper. My students come to school with bright smiles, and an eagerness that inspires me to be happy right along with them. I have been teaching at this school for the last 15 years and I have no desire to teach anywhere else.
