My seventh grade students attend a Title 1 school in a very rural small town in South Carolina. The majority of the approximately 90 students I teach have typical adolescent interests such as hunting, fishing, and sports. Many of my students come from single-parent families or are being raised by grandparents, therefore, it's important to document the traditions of their unique family situations. 40 to 50 percent of my students are performing below grade level standards. Thus, it is important to engage them in meaningful learning experiences.
