  • Welcome to Fabulous 5th Grade!

    Funded Sep 27, 2023

I want to thank you so much for your generosity. Your kindness is so greatly appreciated. I am truly excited to have the ability to expand my flexible seating and self-regulation options within my classroom thanks to you. This will contribute to a variety of skills and allow my students to feel safe and comfortable into their learning space. This will lead to increased student engagement and empowerment in their education. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

  • Musical Self-Regulation

    Funded Mar 19, 2016

I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. My heart is warm with your generosity and I cannot share enough how appreciative I am for your kindness.

The students I work with are amazing and I strive to find their individual avenues of success. All my students need guidance and coaching around becoming self-regulators and music has always been the common thread in that process for each student. Music is always playing in my classroom and I use it not only as a self-regulating tool, but as a way to engage in conversation, find connections with students and as a motivator.

Thank you for seeing my request as important and understanding the usefulness that items will provide. With this donation, I can come close to my goal of having a tool where music can be used for almost every student at any given time. Please know how grateful I truly am. :)”

  • Literacy and Knowledge for Students With Special Needs

    Funded Oct 2, 2014

Thank you so very much for your generous donation to purchase my Scholastic News subscriptions. I used the magazine on a weekly basis. Not only did the magazine engage my students in current events and issues going on in their world, it was an excellent resource for common core writing instruction. The materials that accompanied the magazine each week provided a variety of lessons and graphic organizers that addressed the common core writing standards. I saw a large improvement in my student's interest in current events as well as their ability to write persuasive statements/paragraphs, cite information and analyze text. My students struggle with self-regulation in the classroom, which impedes their learning, especially with writing. Having to write can be an intimidating and very challenging time in their learning day. The lessons and resources provided a predictable structure that students felt comfortable with and were able to progress in their writing both in skill and willingness to participate. I would love to once again have this resource available. I am in the process of seeking more funding for the 2015-16 school year. This was an amazing opportunity made possible by your kindness. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Palaoro

My students for the 2023-24 school year will be in 5th grade. It is important that I create a positive learning environment that supports self-regulation and social-emotional skills, which greatly impacts their access to education and learning. I have a variety of students including those who are engaged in their learning and some who are resistant to learning. I believe having attunement to their needs and using the neuro-developmental skills and demands model, learning can be less intimidating and reduces frustration. 5th grade students need a variety of avenues for learning and presenting information on a daily basis. A classroom that provides an inviting atmosphere, a predictable environment with consistent response and patterned, repetitive routines, provides external self-regulation. This allows me to implement point of performance coaching for emotional regulation, academic and social skill development.
