Great Readers, Make Future Leaders!

Funded Dec 3, 2024

We are so appreciative of your generosity in helping us create more learning opportunities for our students. Thanks to your donations, we now have beautiful new books for our classroom library, comfortable seating, and all of the supplies that we need to facilitate hands-on, arts-based activities to teach crucial Humanities skills.

One of our goals for our 7th graders is that each student builds the habit of reading independently outside of school. We have found that our students are most likely to complete their reading homework when they have books that they are excited to dive into. As such, we have tried to furnish our classroom library with lots of new books in a variety of genres and levels so that each student can connect with a book that they love. With your help, our library has an even greater variety of books, and many of our new books are in series so that if a student falls in love with the first book they can keep their momentum going! Some students' eyes lit up when they saw the full box set of the Harry Potter series, while others couldn't wait to get their hands on The Last Kids On Earth books. Our budding readers are ready to grow their skills thanks to your generosity.

In our project-based Humanities classroom, learning is hands-on, creative, and kinetic. Students are using our brand new cushions to create learning spaces for small groups outside of their desks, where they can work in the environments in which they learn best. Students are using our art supplies to show their learning, whether that's drawing pictures on posters that teach about social pandemics or cutting out parts of a paragraph to put together and organize. We are so grateful to the Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation for matching each donation and making it possible for us to engage our students' interest and imagination through multiple mediums and modalities.

Thank you all so much for your donations. Beyond the physical items, it truly means a lot to know that we have the support of our community in providing our students with the high-quality Humanities education that they deserve. We wish you all a wonderful new year filled with great books! ”

With gratitude,

Ms. Kristy
