Bilingual Lending Library

Funded Dec 4, 2024

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation to establish our school's bilingual lending library. The reaction from our students and their families has been phenomenal. I literally have a line of little readers outside my classroom door every morning waiting to check out a new book. I love having students so excited about reading. Parents are excited to have books they can read with their children. It has been so rewarding to know our project has already made a positive impact with our bilingual families. I have had the opportunity to explain our project to other students who are curious about the books their peers are taking home. These students have expressed disappointment that their families are not bilingual and therefore cannot participate in our lending library.

Your generous donation made it possible to purchase nearly 100 books to circulate between our families. I purchased heavy duty bags so students have a special way to transport their books between school and home. I also ordered clear sticky pockets to put on the back of each book and made a card for each book to create a checkout system. I read a blog about starting a lending library and it suggested taking a picture of each book, so if students forget to return a book they have a visual reminder of the book they are looking for at home. That has been a helpful tip and we haven't lost any books yet. I also added another feature that has proven to be very helpful. I velcroed a dry erase marker to the window outside my classroom door. Students can write their name on my window if I am not in my room and then I know who is ready to exchange books. When I have a few minutes during the day, I go get the kids who want new books.

I am including pictures of some of my students and the thank you notes they wrote to you. I wish you could witness the joy your donation has brought to our families. Again, your generosity is greatly appreciated and will impact families for many years.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Moyer
