Support Brilliant Young Minds: Help Provide "The Underground Railroad"
Funded Dec 12, 2024Thank you so much for your generous support in providing copies of The Underground Railroad for my students. Because of your gift, my classroom was able to dive deeply into a powerful piece of literature that resonated with our students in ways I couldn't have imagined.
Throughout our novel study, students made rich, meaningful connections between the text and our modern world. We conducted Socratic Seminars where students led discussions and analyzed themes like freedom, identity, resistance, and systemic injustice. One student—who had been quiet for most of the year—truly came alive during this unit, sharing insights with clarity and passion. It was a moment I'll never forget.
Overall, students said this was their favorite work we read all year. Your support made that possible.
Many of you, like us, love to read books—but you may not always get to see what happens when a classroom full of young minds engages with a story that changes them. Please know that your contribution helped bring literature to life and gave our students a transformative experience.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Densieski
Opening Minds: A Journey Through "1984"
Funded Nov 17, 2024I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in donating a class set of 1984 to my students. Your kindness has had an incredible impact—not only in providing much-needed materials but also in sparking critical conversations that will stay with them far beyond our classroom.
For many of my students, receiving a brand-new book was a rare and exciting experience. Some couldn't believe how clean and fresh the copies were, and they were thrilled to have a book of their own to take home and bring to class each day. Having these books in their hands made them feel valued, empowered, and eager to engage.
Reading 1984 together has led to some of the most thought-provoking discussions we've had all year. The novel's themes of surveillance, truth, and power resonated deeply with my students, especially in today's world of social media and digital privacy. They explored complex questions about personal freedom, the reliability of information, and the way history is shaped. These conversations challenged them to see different perspectives and think critically about the world around them.
Beyond discussion, my students have worked on projects and writing assignments inspired by the book, but their favorite part has been reading in class and sharing insights with their peers. That sense of shared discovery—of wrestling with big ideas together—has been invaluable in helping them grow as readers, thinkers, and young adults preparing for life beyond high school.
Your generosity made all of this possible. Thank you for believing in my students and for giving them the opportunity to engage with literature in a meaningful way. Your support is not just an investment in books—it's an investment in their education, their growth, and their future.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Densieski
