"Good Order is the Foundation of All Things"
Funded Jun 7, 2019We were very excited to receive our new book bins last spring. The timing was perfect because summer months were used to organize our books. Books were organized by level and then were moved to the area where students would be able to access appropriate texts.
Students were very excited to see the colorful shelves filled with books that they will be reading this school year. Because we received the new bins, time was taken to really organize titles and weed through books that have long been overlooked.
We are very excited about the new organization and will be taking next steps in creating a check out system that will keep all of our books organized. We thank you for helping us re-create our bookshelves that has ultimately revitalized our use of school resources. Kids are so excited to start checking out books and we are thrilled with the look of our new shelves!”

Refueling Reading: The Power of New Books
Funded Mar 27, 2017Receiving these books at this time of year was what we needed to motivate our students to finish the school year strong. The excitement about the books was contagious. The books are instrumental in continuing the momentum we have built in guided reading. Having text sets really makes guided reading possible in all classrooms. Because there were a variety of levels in this project, grades 1-4 were able to benefit. This means that 100 student at each of these grade levels has the opportunity to encounter a new book in guided reading this year. Having new, exciting titles truly does refuel our reading in all of these grade levels! Thank you so much for your donation. Words cannot express our appreciation.”

Poetry Is Positively Powerful!
Funded May 19, 2016I can't think of a better way to start the year than to open a huge package that has been mailed to my students! The energy in the room was electric. To receive new books, an easel, paints and fancy paper really kicked our year off to a great start. Before we did anything, we passed around and shared the books. I personally can't think of anything more exciting in a classroom than new books. I have never had students so eager to dive into poetry so early in the year. I am saving the watercolors and paper for a poetry unit launch later this year. Students will be creating a watercolor painting that will serve as inspiration for their poetry writing. As for the easel, it is getting tons of use. The easel has been so helpful in math as well as writing class. Thank you so much for making this the most exciting start to a new school year!”

The Sounds for Success
Funded Mar 11, 2016Dear Donors,
I have been working with struggling K-2nd graders all year. I try to make learning fun and exciting. I feel when kids get bored, learning is impacted greatly. With the help of your donations, my small group working is engaging, fun, and different everyday. My students love the fact that when they come to me they "play games". Learning in this way has helped them succeed and grow as readers.
My student were so excited when we received our donation. They couldn't believe all of these new games were for them. They rarely have the opportunity to be the recipients of new supplies, just for them. Everyday they come in excited to see what we are going to do.
The students have really benefited from the phonemic awareness activities. They have moved from beginning and ending sounds to medial sounds and syllable work. This donation has not just impacted my groups of students but also the students who work with tutors in small groups. The donations have helped many and I am truly grateful to you for such generosity.
Thank you and please know you have made a significant difference in many students' lives!”

This classroom project was brought to life by #BestSchoolDay and 4 other donors.Rooted in Reading
Funded Jan 1, 2016Thank you very much for your generous donation towards my Rooted in Reading project. Because of the range of readers we have in kindergarten, we were lacking in resources for blooming readers. With your help, we were able to put 78 new leveled books into our readers' hands! This is so exciting for our guided reading groups. We had many resources for very beginning readers, but we were lacking books that they grow into at a higher level. The students were so excited to get these new titles and add them to their book bags! I can't express in words the level of excitement these new books brought to guided reading.
I also want to thank you for the 67 new dry erase boards for the 4 kindergartens. The teachers were thrilled because the need was so great. They use these boards for word work, and the new supply allows each student to now have their own board.
The difference that these donations have made is truly unreal and I once again thank you for your generosity.”

All Hands-On Reading!
Funded Nov 11, 2015The materials I received came at the perfect time! We were in dire need of magnetic letters and receiving four sets made quite an impact. I was able to supply our reading tutors, who work with intervention groups of students well below grade level, their own sets. This means they are using them all day with 10 different groups of kids, that's 50 students right there that are benefiting!
Students were very excited about the new resources we received. The first graders who received the sight word card boxes were thrilled. I know for the students I work one on one with, the puffy paints have really helped them remembering sight words and difficult vocabulary. They are able to trace them with their fingers and keep them on a ring which they can easily access to study and review words that are tricky.
We are going to continue to use these resources so students can kinesthetically interact with letters and words to make them better readers. We are now reaching the student who can sometimes get left behind because they have a need to build, create, feel and make in order to learn and remember and make sense of what is being taught. Creating a word using letters on a magnetic board is so much more meaningful than seeing it on a poster or on a piece of paper on their desk. We will continue to reach the students who need a hands-on approach to reading.”
