Helping Our Students Improve Their Emotional Control Through Sensory Exploration

Thank you so much for your donations to fund sensory input items and seating devices for my high school students with autism. With the items purchased, I was able to create a calming corner in one of my classrooms, which continually provides a calming space for students when they need a break, are upset, unable to focus because they are over or under stimulated. The seat cushions help with upright posture and tactile input, which enables these students to focus and learn during lessons.

The students were so happy and have to be instructed repeatedly to leave the calming corner and return to their classroom chair because they enjoy the input.

The above tools have helped the paraprofessionals and teachers with a resource to provide assistance with self regulation to these teenagers, who have to overcome so many obstacles to learn.”
