Mental Health Classroom Makeover
Funded Oct 26, 2024Incorporating LED lights, coloring supplies, and a model Titanic into my high school classroom has provided a calming and creative outlet for students, significantly enhancing their mental health. The LED lights create a soothing environment that helps students feel more relaxed and less overwhelmed, especially in stressful moments. Their customizable colors allow for creating a space that resonates with various moods, fostering a sense of comfort and safety. This atmosphere is particularly beneficial for students who may struggle with anxiety or focus, as it helps them feel more grounded and present.
The coloring supplies offer a hands-on, therapeutic activity that encourages mindfulness and self-expression. Coloring helps students channel their emotions in a non-verbal, creative way, which can be especially valuable for those who find it challenging to articulate their feelings. It provides a mental break from academic pressures and allows students to engage in a calming, repetitive task that promotes focus and reduces stress. Similarly, the model Titanic adds an engaging, tactile element to the classroom, sparking curiosity and teamwork. It allows students to immerse themselves in a project that combines creativity and problem-solving, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride. Together, these tools create a nurturing environment where students can unwind, recharge, and build resilience.”
