Creating an Inclusive Environment for Students with Complex Communication Needs

I would like to sincerely express my gratitude for your donation towards my project. In receiving the funds for these resources, I was able to provide a more inclusive classroom environment for my students with complex communication needs. One of the most notable ways I was able to apply these resources was by implementing a sensory corner in a 6:1:1 classroom. Upon assembling the sensory corner, all students in the classroom were excited to interact with the materials, including fidget toys, an interactive switch board, sensory tiles, vibrating pillow, etc. In the classroom, we are currently working towards supplementing the sensory corner with visual aids, including schedules, calm down strategies, describing words, and emotional regulation visuals. Because of your generous donation, my students are able to share a common place in their classroom where they can feel safe, comfortable, and regulated in times of distress.”
