  • May we Have a Little Light, Please?

    Funded Apr 6, 2010

As I get ready to download pictures from my class, I am once again sooooooo appreciative of those who support public education in our great country.

Just today, we put the first overhead bulb to use as there was a "blow out" right in the middle of after school tutoring. (We're prepping for the statewide test next week.) It makes my life as a teacher much easier to be able to use the overhead projector to show kids "step by step" details in a math problem, set up notes for them to copy or model a writing exercise.

Gracias from the bottom of heart. You are making the world a better place for teachers!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • More to Fractions than Pizza Slices

    Funded Feb 17, 2010

A million THANK YOUs for funding my fraction manipulatives proposal at Donor's Choose!!!! You are truly ANGELS for education!

After having a long week studying range, mean, median and mode, using these manipulatives was a welcome distraction, for sure. The kids were eager to buddy up and play with the flashcards as well as "move those pieces" of fractions on their desks. It was a wonderful sight to see them engaged is something educational.

Fractions are a difficult concept beyond the usual 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3. Now, I am well on the way to setting up fully functional math activity centers. The best part is that these supplies will fit into totes and can be carried to desks rather than sit all alone in cupboards. Being able to use manipulatives increases student productivity. I look forward to being able to prove that my mantra "ICANMAKEYOUSMARTER" works with my kids!

Again, your generosity exceeds my dreams! Thank you sooooooooooo much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Time Rolls By

    Funded Sep 10, 2009

What can I say but THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

The kids are enthusiastic when it comes to timed reading now. Getting the timers passed out and collected is not a problem. I worried that they would "walk off by themselves" but the class is doing a marvelous job of hanging the timers up at the end of the day. It is amazing what a couple of closet hooks can do! Besides, being more focused on independent reading, it has aided in the "everything in its place" style of thinking that is sooooo hard for preteenagers.

I greatly appreciate your support of this grant. You are truly a generous person!!!!!”

  • ON YOUR MARK, GO, READ!

    Funded Oct 10, 2009

Well, the timers are the best thing since "sliced bread" or even cell phones. Yeah, right. Anyways, my students love using the timers when they read with a buddy. It helps to encourage them to reread, increase comprehension and improve their fluency. It is a riot to watch them hang the timers around their necks and "assume the position" of Ready, Set and Go!

I dearly LOVE the Attention Grabber timer. It is a panic to hear Tarzan or a rooster's crow to announce that time is over. It is much more fun than hearing me repeat multiple times to stop an activity or even turn off the lights. What a fabulous invention it is!

Your generosity allows me to put a spin on our learning atmosphere. Thank you soooooo much for providing the funding to fulfill my wish. I greatly appreciate it. You are an angel to us! ”

  • Sharp as a Tack

    Funded Sep 2, 2009

What can I say but THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Finally, we now have a pencil sharpener that realllllllllly works. The previous model would not "process" any pencils. It seemed to barely chew up a pencil and would take a child up to five minutes to get ONE done. Now, it seems as though we have the FUTURAMA model of all pencil sharpeners. It makes the morning prep time go so much faster. Kids can line up and get several pencils done in a snap!

Lovedo come back because they so easily fit in pockets. The little individual pencil sharpeners have whole new life. Kids have asked to take theirs home so they will have a sharpener at home. Yippeeeeee, they're doing more work because of this opportunity!!!!!

Consider yourself hugged by 24 kiddies and one "ole teacher! Your generosity is greatly appreciated by one and all. ”

  • There Are Careers Beyond Being An Athlete Or Rapper

    Funded Feb 19, 2009

Thank you so much for supporting the Donor's Choose proposal called "There Are Careers Beyond Being an Athlete Or Rapper" recently. It is such a thrill that you have chosen to provide these career exploration books for my students. Kids can now investigate careers that interest them.

Would you believe I have a GIRL who wants to be an astronaut? I am only too happy to "push" her in that direction. To have students "want" more than what their neighborhood offers is a thrill for any teacher. To see them searching through the pages of these books warms my heart.

Having age appropriate materials that are colorful and of interest to preteens helps to reinforce the importance of the written word. I especially enjoy the comments by the kids that begin with, "Did you know...?" Opening their minds is my dream.

Your generous spirit and kindness has helped bring a wish to our classroom. Again, many thanks for your benevolence!

  • What IS That Word? OR Que Es Esa Palabra?

    Funded Nov 9, 2008

Are you my fairytale godparent? My prayers, wishes and dreams have been answered! Thank you so much for funding my DonorsChoose.org proposal, "What IS That Word? OR Qué Es Esa Palabra?"

My classroom is down to the last tattered and torn English-Spanish dictionary. In fact, it has some pages missing. Thank you for coming to our rescue! Or rather, should I say GRACIAS? Sponsors like you are giving teachers and students many more opportunities. Bueno!

This is especially joyous as this past week, one of my ESL students told me that he wants to become a translator and learn more languages. It will give everyone the boost they need to continue to explore their new world”

  • Need Highlights But Not the Salon Kind

    Funded Oct 19, 2008

What a delightful e-mail surprise to find my DonorsChoose project funded!

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting this proposal! Having enough highlighters for my students will make my job of teaching reading skills much easier.

I look forward to everyone having a highlighter. I envision seeing keywords, details and supporting evidence marked in paragraphs that previously would contain only little pencil lines, boxes and loops. It will make our little world POP! We graciously accept your gift! Thank you, again. You are an angel”

  • Drive This One to the Printer!

    Funded Sep 26, 2008

What can I say? Here I am writing a thank you note and thinking that I actually want to send a BIG HUG to you!!!!! Well, consider it done. Your bigheartedness exceeds my wildest dreams.

Someone had told me that her school's supply list included a "jump drive" right along with copy paper and Kleenex for every child. I thought, imagine that? Thus, I worked on a DonorsChoose.org proposal. My dream has come true. I look forward to being able to download students' writing so we won't have to spend time finding the laptop.... I will be able to take them home, score the lessons and easily even create portfolios with this technology. I hadn't even thought of that when I dreamed to be "like" a school in the burbs.

Thank you HEAPS for caring so much about our children. You are GREAT”

  • Lights, No Bulb, No Overhead Action

    Funded Sep 26, 2008

Thank you for having such a generous spirit and funding "Lights, No Bulb, No Overhead Action" for my class. I am ecstatic that I will be able to continue to use the overhead projector for examples, demonstrations and note taking purposes.

I plan to share out the "bulbs" with my colleagues. Since I travel teach in three classrooms, there are many overheads to use. If I use their equipment, I should have to share in the upkeep.

Thank you, again, for supporting me in my endeavor to teach science and social studies to grades four, five and six. It makes my teaching life so much easier! Bless you”
