  • "The Heart & Haven: A Cozy Space for Connection and Care"

    Funded Mar 24, 2025

Thanks to your incredible generosity, The Heart & Haven has become a true sanctuary for our students—a cozy, welcoming space where connection, comfort, and creativity thrive every day. The moment my students walked in and saw the soft new carpet rolled out, their faces lit up with excitement. Many immediately kicked off their shoes, stretched out on the floor, and sighed with relief, saying things like, "This feels like home!" The cozy carpet has become our gathering place for morning meetings, small group discussions, and even quiet reading time—it's amazing how something so simple can shift the entire tone of our classroom.

The snacks and games you provided have added a whole new layer of care and community. Students now look forward to our afternoon "reset" time, when they can grab a healthy snack, relax, and play a game with a classmate. I've watched friendships blossom over Uno, laughter echo during Connect 4, and shy students find their voice while collaborating over puzzles. Just last week, we used this space to launch a project on empathy and communication, where students paired up to share stories about their lives, then illustrated each other's experiences. The comfort of the space helped them open up in ways I hadn't seen before.

Looking ahead, we're building on this foundation with a social-emotional learning unit that includes journaling, role-playing, and mindfulness activities. The Heart & Haven is now the heart of that work—both literally and figuratively. Thank you for helping us create a space where every student feels seen, safe, and supported. We couldn't have done this without you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lara

  • Sculpting A Brighter Tomorrow

    Funded Jan 31, 2025

Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has been transformed into a vibrant community of readers and thinkers. With the addition of these new texts, our students are diving into stories that not only reflect their experiences but also challenge them to see the world through new lenses. These books have introduced essential skills like identifying theme and tone, analyzing character development, and drawing connections between literature and real-life issues. More importantly, they've sparked meaningful conversations—about identity, justice, empathy, and resilience.

Reading in our classroom now looks like excitement, engagement, and even a bit of healthy debate. Students gather in small groups to annotate passages, ask each other tough questions, and share insights that go far beyond the pages of the book. One student who previously struggled to connect with reading is now leading group discussions, inspired by a character whose journey mirrors her own. Another student shared that this is the first time he's actually looked forward to reading after school.

Your contribution has truly sculpted a brighter tomorrow for our students. You haven't just put books in their hands—you've opened doors, ignited passions, and helped shape young minds ready to change the world. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lara
