Funded Nov 3, 2024Thank you for your help providing excellent classroom lab activity materials to my students! We wrapped up Unit 3 in December 2024, which covered the electromagnetic spectrum and electron excitation.
My students were excited to create their own artistic album covers with the glass prisms you provided, learning about light refraction and visible wavelengths in the process. You can check out some of the photos they took for their album covers and see the "winners" in the photos I provided! Next, students were stunned by the vibrant colors produced in the flame testing lab. Many students made connections to special effects they see in movies. My students concluded that different salts emitted different colors due to their electron configurations. Then, students learned about the science of glow sticks and the chemiluminescence that happen inside when the glass tube is cracked. Many students felt proud to see that their predictions were correct - a glow stick in hot water will emit brighter light than a glow stick in cold water! Check out the images to see for yourself.
I work hard to provide experiences that help my students explore science for themselves and retain the knowledge that they gain in chemistry class. I couldn't do it without you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Coy
