Block Center Revamp

I would like to thank you for your contribution to my classroom - for my students! With funding, we were able to REVAMP our block center with new materials for students to engage in.

The day the resources were available to students, those who chose to play in our block center immediately recognized the new materials, "oh, look at this!", "wow a doctor", "I have a firetruck", "this is a sink." The surprised look on their faces, with joyful smiles and comments was breath taking to see and hear. After choice time was over, we had a class discussion on "ways to play with our new materials." We discussed, taking turns, not colliding vehicles into one another, or throwing along with building houses or building and adding the accessories (people, vehicles, animals and building house pieces) to create familiar buildings.

Going forward, students will be reminded to create their structure (building) then are encouraged to add accessories to it to make it realistic, "come to life." With these new materials, students are anxious to play in the block center to build a structure. Students proudly call us (their teachers) to show us their creations and asking us to take a picture to share with their parents. These new materials, made our block center a place where students can play, learn and relate!
