Creating a Calm Learning Involvement for Students With IEPs
Funded Oct 6, 2024I want to personally thank you for your gracious donations. My students absolutely love their lap desks because they allow for flexible seating when working individually, in small groups, or when joining our daily community circle. Often times, my students that deal with emotional challenges prefer to sit on the floor rather than at a student desk. These lap desks provide a safer option that is conducive to them being able to participate while being in a more comfortable position. Regarding the comfort pets, all I can say is wow! I took a gamble that 14 and 15 year olds would find them helpful. They have become loving additions to our classroom space. All of the students enjoy holding them during community circle and will even keep them at their working spaces during independent work time! Other teachers in my building have decided to also get them for their classrooms because the students truly do find comfort in having them. My students even gave them names! Finally, the adult coloring books, coloring pencils, and puzzles provide hands on soothing for students that is not related to being overly reliant on their electronic devices. These serene activities has encouraged students to positively interact with each other allowing for building stronger friendship bonds even for those students that are often reserved and quiet.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Clark
