Storybook Theater Collection
Funded Oct 3, 2024The books you donated to our "Storybook Theater Collection" laid the groundwork for our first official unit of the year -- using theater skills to bring a book to life.
With the book "Ten Timid Ghosts," we practiced acting out the ghosts' different emotions. This gave us a chance to explore how we can use our bodies and faces to make our characters' emotions clear to an audience. With "My Mama Monster Loves Me So," we noticed all the different ways Mama Monster shows her love to her Baby Monster. We realized that these are all "actions." Then, we selected a character (Mama or Baby) and acted out these actions. We also made statues of how our families show we love each other. With the book "Big Pumpkin," we identified the witch's big problem - her pumpkin grew too big to move! We then made tableaux (when actors make a frozen picture that tells a story) that showed our ideas of how the witch could remove her pumpkin from the vine so she could make pumpkin pie for Halloween. In time, we will use these skills to adapt stories and create original endings.”
