My students are LOVING their new reading and calm down area. Since adding the area to our room, many students are choosing the reading area during their free play time. Students are learning important skills like communication and sharing while being exposed to many books and new learning experiences.

When students first saw the new area, they were immediately drawn to the weighted stuffed animals. Conversations started about what each animal is, where it lives, what it eats, and which is their favorite. I am enjoying the smiles on my student's faces during their reading area time.

Since many students are choosing the reading area during their free play time, I am going to begin offering the reading area/stuffed animals as one of our classroom rewards. Students who follow directions and show good behavior will be allowed to choose a stuffed animal to keep with them during nap time!
