Sensory Support for Growing Minds
Funded Dec 4, 2024Already I have seen the impact your gracious donations have made on our little class. The sensory pocket chart with mirror and daily affirmations is a hit with students that need a space to interact with and practice their positive affirmations. The mirror that is attached is a sweet touch that the students are very excited about.
The sensory squishy items are already making a difference because the class really needs time to collect their thoughts and refocus their energy.
The cutest item was the plastic phone that helps amplify their little voices, so if a student is not speaking loud enough to be heard I use this to make them self-aware. It works 100% of the time.
Thank you so much for the chance to see my wishes for my students come true.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Cosgrove
This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 10 other donors.Creating Activities That Last
Funded Oct 21, 2024I know that this was one of two projects I created, but it was my first one to be completed and I am without words to describe how your generous donations made me feel. When I saw the donations pop up my heart was filled with amazement and gratitude rolled up into one. I am a seasoned teacher, but I am new to DonorsChoose.com. It really is a fabulous tool that DonorsChoose.com offers teachers a way to give all kids the school year of their dreams, especially in schools where there isn't enough funds for us all to dream.
My special Ed class of 3 kindergarteners and 5 first graders are struggling with focusing deficits, speech and language deficits, daily living skills, as well as socio-emotional deficits. These items have already made such a change in what I can contribute to their very first academic year in school.
The laminator is like butter and does such a sweet job at protecting task activities and behavior charts. I also protected the posters that have now transformed the far corner of our room into a "Calming Corner". I have spent two days going over the 4 ways to release your breath when you are stressed or upset. The students love the Yoga chart. Now when a student is struggling they can ask to spend a little time stretching or holding a pose from that chart and before you know it, they return with a smile on their face.
The shoelace letters are fabulous for our Autistic kindergartener because it helps with hand-eye coordination as well as fine-motor skills. He loves to work the shoelace in and out, over the letters.
In addition, the two books that we ordered are too adorable. It requires the students to comprehend the author's purpose, but does it in such a playful way.
I already feel so blessed thanks to my caring and thoughtful donors, that I am raving to everyone I meet about trying out DonorsChoose.com. I am keeping all of you in my thoughts. ♥️”
With gratitude,
