Write It Nice and Proud

Thanks to your generous contributions, our Day of the Dead altar project was both meaningful and educational. The colorful tissue paper, mini whiteboards, and erasers allowed students to fully immerse themselves in this cultural experience.

Creating marigold flowers—a mandatory component due to their deep significance in Día de los Muertos altars. In addition, the marigolds, crafted from the tissue paper you provided, provided students with the hands on experience and also supported students in connecting them to the tradition in a personal way. Additionally, students used the tissue paper to design papel picado, an essential part of the altar that adds beauty and represents the delicate nature of life.

The mini whiteboards were instrumental in helping students learn and practice vocabulary about the altars in Spanish. This interactive tool made it easier for them to retain key terms related to the project, reinforcing both language skills and cultural understanding.

Each student created their own individual altar, and these resources made that possible. Without the tissue paper, we couldn't have included these culturally significant elements in their altars. Moving forward, we'll continue to build on this experience by exploring other cultural traditions and language concepts. Thank you for making this impactful learning opportunity a reality for my students!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Flores
