The Serenity Room

Funded Oct 4, 2024

This space was a storage closet before I moved into it. The walls were bare, the floor had broken tiles, there were old textbooks on the shelves. With the 50 foot extension cord, I was able to use lamps to make a more soft comfortable lighting, so that the overhead flourescent bulbs are not necessary. The area rug makes the room feel more relaxing and inviting to our students. And the office chair allows me to stay in the room for nearly 7 hours a day to provide services to our students.

As of this date, I have 20-3o students visiting the "Serenity Room" daily, with those numbers growing every day. Students come in sometimes just to gather themselves during their lunch time, because the cafeteria and 600 students can be overwhelming. Others come to have counseling sessions to discuss various issues including: anxiety, depression, anger management, autism related difficulties, home problems which impact their ability to concentrate at school. Attendance and grades with these students are both showing vast improvement thanks to your generosity in helping me create a welcoming atmosphere for them!!”

With gratitude,

Mr. T
