  • Sculpting Our World

    Funded Nov 17, 2022

When I first opened our box, I told the students that it was a box full of art fun. They were excited to see what was delivered. When I finally opened it, there were some excited faces in the room. My students couldn't wait to get their hands on the self-hardening clay. When it was time for art centers, the clay was very popular. I saw the students engaged in trying to sculpt on their own. They sculpted animals. They also used cookie cutters to make necklaces and other jewelry items. The clay also helped with their fine motor skills. The clay was a very popular center. They loved it.

You can never have enough drawing paper in the class. The students enjoyed drawing on the big roll of newsprint. Because of the size of the roll, I was able to have multiple students enjoy drawing. They used markers, crayons, and oil pastels.

I want to take the time to thank you for your generous donation. My students are creating with art materials, that our school doesn't provide, thanks to your contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cervantes

  • Stuck on Reading

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

When I first opened our box, I told the students that it was a box full of literacy fun. They were excited to see what was delivered. When I finally opened it, there were some excited faces in the room. My students couldn't wait to get their hands on the magnetic tiles. When it was time for literacy centers, the magnetic tiles were very popular. I saw the students engaged in trying to spell out the simple 3 sound words. They think they are playing and in fact they are learning. The magnetic tiles are a very popular center. They love it.

The Snap Build CVC word builder has helped develop literacy. We use them in small groups. It is a great learning center. The students like to snap the letters to the picture. It is a great hands on activity. It not only teaches spelling but fine motor skills too.

I want to take the time to thank all of you for your generous donation. My students are learning with hands on materials thanks to your contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cervantes

  • Counting on You!

    Funded May 10, 2022

When I first opened our material box, the students were excited to see what was delivered. When I finally opened the box there were some excited faces in the room. My students couldn't wait to get their hands on the counting trays. When it was time for math centers, the trays were very popular. I saw the students engaged in counting and putting small cubes in each slot. This helps in one-to-one correspondence, which is a kindergarten standard. They think they are playing and in fact they are learning. The trays are still a very popular center. All I have to do is change the objects to be counted. They love it.

The Tens Frame Class Set has helped develop number sense. We can use whole class and the students love working on the rug. We have used it to just count to 10. Also have used them to identify other ways of making 10. And now we are learning about addition and subtraction and can use them to help us solve some word problems.

I want to take the time to thank you for your generous donation. My students are learning with hands on materials thanks to your contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cervantes

  • Hear the Music

    Funded Aug 15, 2012

I want to thank all our donors on behalf of all my students and myself. This project has impacted my students in so many positive ways.

We have used all the materials and the students have benefited from everything we received.

The students now can listen to books on tape. The listening center has brought a positive experience for everyone. We have enough headphones for a small group. A bonus feature I didn't count on is that students can now record themselves reading on a USB flash drive. And the CD player can play the recording. Now the students record their favorite book, and then enjoy listening with their friends. It is a great motivator; everyone wants to read a story.

The Bose Sound Dock Portable Digital Music System has been a great asset to our classroom. The students are able to listen to music indoors and out. It is great for exercising outdoors, everyone can hear no matter where they are on the playground. We just had our Christmas program and the Sound Dock came in so handy. Our whole grade level was able to practice in the auditorium, with great sound.

The mini-speakers work great when there's an educational video I need to show. Everyone is able to hear the video from anywhere in the class.

With so many budget cuts going on in our district, I am so glad that my students received the resources that enable them to enjoy the music. Thank you again for your generous gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cervantes

  • Get Up and Boogie Towards a Bright Future

    Funded Jan 31, 2012

I want to thank all our donors on behalf of all my students and myself. This project has impacted my students in so many positive ways.

First of all we have used all the materials and the students have enjoyed everything we received.

The students now love dancing and exercising. It has been a positive experience for everyone. They want to be healthy and active.

The CD's helped teach students rhythm, dance and most important, exercise. They did not even know they were exercising; they were having so much fun.

The balls were another favorite. They enjoyed playing outdoors and having enough balls so that everybody had a turn. Before our gift, we had 1 ball for 20 students. Now we have a ball for every 2 students. Everyone is active at the same time. No one is bored waiting for their turn.

Again I want to thank everyone for donating to our project. You have made a difference in a child's life. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cervantes

My class consists of 20 bright and friendly children. They put in a lot of effort in the classroom and are very energetic. They enjoy laughing and participating in the conversations that take place concerning the day’s lesson or their own interests. Most students in my class are Latinos from low-income homes. As a result, many of the students live in dangerous neighborhoods where the simple pleasure of playing outside of their own home is denied to them. The only time they are able to exercise and play with other children is at recess. This is not nearly enough exercise. And because of school budget cuts, our school does not have the privilege to purchase additional equipment for the playground much less equipment for dance and movement.
