Working Hard to Play Hard
Funded Aug 6, 2019Thank you so much for your donations to support my students. The students that I teach come to me for extra support in reading, writing, and math. Some of these students also struggle with behavior issues for various reasons. The items I was able to purchase with your kind donations have been a huge hit for my students and something they will not forget.
We have only been in school for a few months but have benefited from these donations already! A few of the favorites are the Hungry, Hungry, Hippos game. Students love earning playing games and this is one they beg to play. I have seen growth in their behavior throughout the week so they can play on Friday. Another amazing outcome of these games is how my students are getting along. They cheer one another on, they have learned that it feels great to support each other, and Go Fish has taught them strategy.
One of my students is afraid of noises. He has had headphones in the past that help him, but were not sound-proof so he would need to leave fun assemblies or not participate in activities that he would like to. The noise canceling headphones that you donated towards have allowed him to stay in all assemblies, he wears them for all drills, and he has become very responsible with them.
As you can see, my students have truly been impacted by your wonderful donations. Thank you so much for supporting my 4th graders and making a difference!”

Mrs. Gibbs

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for supporting my students! The STEM building materials are used every morning as morning tubs. I give them challenges as they come into the classroom in the morning and they work together to achieve that goal. One day I told all students as they came in to build a city with their morning tubs. Some buildings were tall, wide, short etc. As I walked around and talked to students each building had a place and was built that way for specific reasons. It was fun to watch them work together!
When I first brought out the materials it was like Christmas. Students were laughing (and still do) and were so excited to get started. I put all materials into separate tubs and let them explore. They moved from one tub to another spending a few minutes at each and then wanted to see what was in another tub. Now they have materials that they are working on and go to those frequently. I have a group currently working with one tub to make a marble maze. Over the past 3 weeks it has gone from a straight line slide to a tower with multiple levels and the marble changes direction on the way down. I can't wait to see what they do next.
I am so excited for this year as we have purchased a new reading curriculum as a 2nd grade team. We now are looking to purchase the mentor texts that go with this curriculum to get the books into hands and to support their learning.
Again, we are so thankful in Iowa for the support and care we have received!”

Funded Oct 4, 2011Thank you so much for supporting writing for my students! I have had the opportunity to provide my students with new writing experiences which have motivated them to become better writers. The book called Amelia's Notebook that was purchased has been an inspiration since we received the materials for all of my students. The character was similar to them and they made a connection that has transferred into their writing. The notebooks that were purchased matched Amelia's notebook she uses in the story, so this has motivated them even more.
I love hearing my students refer to the materials when they are writing independently. I have a student that reminds the class each time we write to get a "space worm" so that the spacing is easy to read. I have students using paper that supports neat handwriting while in the writing center that was provided as well as at home. Parents have also complimented us on the work that has been coming home and have purchased items that we use to be used at home.
Without you, none of this would have been possible. Not only have they begun to express themselves through writing more, they also have become stronger readers.
Thank you for believing in us and for donating to support writing education! ”
