Funded Oct 1, 2024The new recess materials, like the giant Connect Four, oversized darts, and giant Uno cards, and the Tic-Tac-Toe have brought a whole new energy to our playtime! These games have really helped my students work together, especially when it comes to collaboration, strategy, and taking turns.
When the students first saw these materials, they were absolutely thrilled! There was a lot of excitement, with a few "wow" moments as they realized how big and fun everything was. The giant Uno cards, in particular, sparked a lot of curiosity, as many of the kids hadn't played with such large versions of the game before. It was a fun way to engage them in something familiar but with a whole new twist.
As for next steps, we're focusing on encouraging good sportsmanship and reinforcing the importance of taking turns. I've been having some short discussions with the students about patience, respecting each other's space, and how to be both a good winner and a good loser.
Recess has become a space where students can unwind but also grow in ways that help them build stronger relationships and trust with each other.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Galarza
