Shaping Creativity: Exploring Ceramics in the Classroom

Funded Sep 18, 2024

Thanks to your generous contributions, my students and I at Patterson Park Public Charter School are excitedly diving into the world of ceramics! The new supplies will open doors to creativity and hands-on learning in a way we hadn't experienced before. We're starting our ceramic journey with a project that focused on creating personalized ceramic tiles and hand building, where students explored texture, pattern, and storytelling through clay.

When the students first learned about the supplies—clay, carving tools, and glazes—they were beyond thrilled. Their eyes lit up realizing that they were about to make something tangible with their own hands. One student even said, "I can't wait until we get to make real pottery now!"

Currently, we're deep into designing our first ceramic pieces. The students are sketching their ideas and learning to mold the clay, focusing on personal expression. Our next steps will include firing the tiles in the kiln, then glazing and adding finishing touches. I can already see their confidence building as they grasp new skills, and it's all thanks to you!

We can't wait to share the final products with you, and we're so excited for what's next as we explore even more complex ceramic projects in the months ahead!

Thank you again for bringing this incredible opportunity to our classroom!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Luciano
