Combination Locks for Sixth Graders in Middle School
Funded Sep 24, 2024Thank you so much for your donation of combination locks. My students learn how to use them as a warmup two days a week. We now have 75% of my students using their own lockers!! This is a huge improvement from the 5% we had before your donation.
I created combination cards for my students with a visual on how to turn the locks and put right and left stickers on them to help them remember which way to turn the lock in order to support all learning abilities. My students were so excited when they first saw the locks. They said, "are you finally going to teach my how to use my locker?!" After the students practice and find success in using the combination lock they switch with a classmate to try a new combination. Once they feel confident they are begging to go try it on their own locker. It is amazing seeing the light in their faces when they feel confident on this new skill. A couple of students are excited to be able to use their PE locker so they aren't worried about their belongings being stolen.
I plan to use these as a warm up one day a week until each student is successful with a combination lock. Next year I plan to use them in the first few days of school so the students are feeling successful RIGHT away in their new middle school setting.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Klei
