  • Marching With Confidence

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

I am deeply appreciative to each one of you for your generosity, and for supporting my elementary special education students to receive their marching band uniforms.

I enlisted the help of one of the classroom teachers and our related service providers to put together the plumes on the hats and lay out all of the uniforms as a display for when the students came into the theatre. If you could have heard their screams, their squeals and the uproar as they ran towards the uniforms, you would easily understand how important your donation was to them. It made them feel worthy.

Students in the band wore their uniforms with pride for our Mardi Gras celebration as they marched through the halls of the school. In that moment, no-one was 'less than'. When the school community saw them marching in uniform, they were not only shocked, because no-one knew, but their cheers and applause were exhilarating. YOU MADE THIS POSSIBLE! The joy, the glee and self confidence shown on their little faces were priceless. THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wells

  • The Drumline: Give Us a Beat

    Funded Dec 23, 2024

Omigosh! Thank you! How in the world can I explain to you the impact of the Drumline on my special education students. They went wild when they saw the snares and quad. One student asked me was it real, "Do we get to keep them?" Within this elementary school in the South Bronx, they don't get to see many examples of Marching Bands or a Drumline. So our music program has expanded some to include these beautiful percussive instruments, THANKS TO YOU!

My job has been to raise their understanding and appreciation of the arts, specifically pertaining to their rich culture rooted in African American history. During our Mardi Gras parade, a handful of students demonstrated with the snare drums along with the brass and woodwind instruments. I wish I could send a video of them playing a backbeat. And barring budget cuts, we hope to expand our music residency. But it is the generosity and kindness of amazing donors like you, who come in and contribute, and literally make an unforgettable difference. THANK YOU!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wells

  • Magic Carpet Ride

    Funded Dec 20, 2024

¡La joie est de retour ... THE JOY IS BACK! We received your gift of this beautiful music-themed carpet and we are SO GRATEFUL! The students love it. They want to do every lesson on it! As we continue our studies listening to jazz, learning about jazz artists, understanding rhythm and the dynamics of music and NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana), I cannot get them off the carpet. They run into the room, take off their shoes and dive onto the carpet. They caress the carpet. They talk about the texture and bright colors of the carpet. They decipher the music symbols around the border. They even want to do puppet theatre on the carpet. And they engage with one another, participating in clapping out rhythms and dancing with one another. For students with autism this is remarkable. What a gift you have given!

I truly cannot thank you enough for believing in my special education students and providing them this amazing resource to engage in the arts together. You have made an incredible difference in the lives of children. Merci mille fois!”

    With gratitude,

  • Baby, It's Cold Outside!

    Funded Jan 27, 2025

It just snowed again two days ago, but the little ones that I teach in the South Bronx who did not have warm coats, hats, scarves and gloves were protected, thanks to you! These resources had such a great impact on them. They were so happy to get the warm clothing. You know, children don't lie about gifts. When they love something, they show it. Most of my students insisted on keeping the hat, scarf and gloves on all day. My other students wanted to make sure the jackets were in their book bag, I guess they were worried it wouldn't be there at dismissal.

Dear donors, you brought a lot of joy to these young ones' lives. Thank you very much for your generosity and kindness! You made a great difference in these students lives, and that means a lot. God Bless!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wells
