For a More Emotionally Intelligent Future

Funded Sep 11, 2024

The items donated to us has been very helpful in helping students manage their emotional state of minds. As an out of classroom support staff, I have multiple meetings with students throughout the day and when they come to my office, the first thing they do without being prompted is to reach out for a fidget item set on my desk. I can see in real time how their state of mind changes every single time. It has allowed me to be able to have more productive conversations with students and get them to reflect on their choices, which allows them to grow.

When students first, saw the donated items, they asked what were they and for what. After explaining to them that it was for all students at our school to use responsibly, they began to come into my office and borrow them to have in class. The expectation is that it should be used to help them concentrate and not distract. Students have been very responsible with using it as a tool that helps them focus in class.

The main objective moving forward is helping students (mostly HS students) manage their state of mind when frustrated. I hope to work with students who easily get frustrated and find ways to manage their emotions in a healthier way.”

With gratitude,

Mr. Hernandez
