Creating Space for 1:1 Learning in a Busy Public School!
Funded Dec 18, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donation which made this project come to life! Our school and I are truly grateful! The impact of your donation is appreciated daily as it impacts our ability to provide the most organized, safe and purposeful therapy sessions to our students at a very busy and crowded NYC public school.
Now when multiple therapists are working with multiple students within a small space we are able to partition the room to help our students focus on task, give them privacy while working on difficult skills and provide additional visual cues to help them work safely without running into other equipment and people. These amazing partitions are also used for practicing handwriting skills, writing out steps/plans and help our students better organize their ideas.
We are so grateful to you!”

Funded Dec 3, 2024I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for your generous donations. With your help, we were able to acquire this durable swing base! This swing base allows us to attach various suspended equipment with which we are able to meet the sensory needs of children with severe sensory processing challenges and other needs.
Please know that your generous donation has a wide spread effect within our school community. Both occupational and physical therapist are able to use it with children who are working on acquiring the much needed foundational skills so that they are able to be successful at school.”

Funded Sep 19, 2024Firstly, I would like to once again express my sincerest gratitude for your generous donation. Our classrooms have immensely benefited from the noise cancellation headphones and the foot swings! I would like to tell you about a few of our amazing young learners whose school day went from stressful and uncomfortable to successful!!
We have a 5 year old student who used to miss out on eating lunch because he would use his hands to hold his ears closed because of how much sensitivity he experiences towards sounds. A lunchroom for lower grades is full of noise and unexpected sounds. With cancellation noise headphones he is able to free his hands and feed himself. He is also a lot less stressed and if he forgets to put his headphones on between transitions will now gesture for staff to assist him with putting them on. His homeroom teacher also shared that he is making huge gains with his ability to write letters as he is less on high alert and now able to attend to demonstrations for how to form letters and numbers. A seemingly small accommodation ended up making the biggest impact for this little guy!
One of our 3rd graders used to spin and roam around the classroom frequently getting too close to other students which would distract both himself and others from learning. It took him a few days with some prompts to use his foot swing instead. His teacher reports that now he spends much more time at his desk learning and completing classwork. When I asked him if the foot swing was useful for him, he said "super useful!"
Each child's story is so individual and unique. And so is the impact that such accommodations have on their school experience. Your impact is truly felt by our students, teachers and their parents. Thank you for supporting our school community and making learning possible for all!”

Ms. Kopman
