Album Art for Music Room: Boosting Inspiration and Mental Health

Funded Sep 15, 2024

Through the support of a DonorsChoose project, students received album art covers to use in their art classes, creating a space for creative expression while promoting mental well-being. These album covers featured a range of artists and genres, many of which resonated deeply with the students, fostering a sense of connection and ownership. By transforming their classroom into a vibrant artistic wall, students have not only celebrated their favorite music and artists but also expressed their personal identities in a meaningful way. This project has allowed students to engage in art-making in a way that feels personal and relevant, offering an outlet for emotions and thoughts that they may not always feel comfortable expressing otherwise.

The impact on students' mental health has been profound. Many students expressed how thankful they were for the materials, sharing that the project helped them feel seen and understood, especially as music is such an important part of their lives. The album art covers became more than just classroom decor; they were a visual representation of students' diverse experiences and feelings. By reflecting their favorite artists and genres, the project empowered students to explore their identities and find common ground with peers. For some, it even became a form of therapy, providing a safe space for reflection and connection. As a result, this creative initiative has not only enriched their artistic skills but has also enhanced their emotional well-being and sense of belonging. Through this project, students have demonstrated how art can serve as a vital tool for mental health and self-expression, aligning perfectly with the goals of the Google.org Teen Mental Health Initiative.”
