  • Safety First: Help Students Stay Safe in our Sensory Space!

    Funded Sep 17, 2024

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support in helping us create a safe, nurturing therapy environment for our students. Thanks to your contributions, we have been able to equip our space with tools and resources that allow our children to engage in sensory activities that promote their overall development.

The new space is specifically designed to support the development of fine motor skills, visual-perceptual abilities, visual-motor integration, motor planning, coordination, full-body strengthening, and self-regulation. Our students are already benefiting greatly from these improvements, and they are excited to enter the therapy room for each session.

To ensure a safe and productive environment, we have implemented a structured set of guidelines for entering the therapy space. These guidelines help our students practice following directions, reduce impulsivity, and transition into their sessions calmly. Many of our students particularly enjoy using the therapy swing, which has proven to be an invaluable tool for their progress. We are deeply appreciative to be able to offer this experience, thanks to your support.

As we continue to build on the foundation of our therapy space, we are eager to add additional materials and equipment to enhance our students' learning experiences. Future plans include expanding the foam matting on the floor for increased safety, as well as acquiring ramps, stairs, and possibly even a rock climbing wall. We would appreciate the opportunity to incorporate additional swing attachments to offer our students a broader range of sensory experiences. We are also working on creating a visual-perceptual and motor wall, as well as a "touch and feel" sensory board to further engage and stimulate our students.

Thank you once again for your generosity. Your continued support allows us to provide a therapy space where our students can thrive and reach their full potential.

    With sincere appreciation,

The PS 69 OTs & PTs”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kerry
