Special Education Class That Needs Your Help
Funded Dec 31, 2024I want to start by sharing my deepest gratitude for all the love and support you gave to my project. What you offered was monumental to all the students I teach, and has provided significant benefits in math to students of all skill levels. Words cannot express the appreciation I will always have for your generosity for my students and classroom. You've changed math for the students I have now and countless more that I'll teach for years to come.
We use our new resources every day, and they have truly been a game-changer for our students. Not only do my students benefit from them, but multiple other classes have also been able to use them as well. One of the biggest ways we use our resources is during our weekly progress monitoring sessions. After assessing their skills, students reinforce their learning by engaging with our new math games, which they absolutely love! These games have made practicing new concepts fun and interactive, allowing students to build their confidence in math. Additionally, students have been using fidgets and incentives to stay engaged and motivated throughout the day. The incentives, such as the prizes and snacks you provided, have encouraged positive behavior and hard work, making our classroom an even more enjoyable and productive space. Thanks to these resources, students are more focused, excited to learn, and eager to participate. We are all beyond grateful for the impact these materials have had on our learning environment.
When the students first saw the materials, they were overjoyed! Each time a package arrived, the excitement in the classroom was contagious. They wanted me to quickly open each item, thrilled to see what new items and games they would get to use. As I mentioned, the math games have been an absolute hit, and every week students look forward to playing them. In fact, they ask me daily if we can find extra time at the end of class to play! Additionally, the incentives, especially the Takis and Mexican candy, have been a huge motivator. Every student has been working extra hard to earn rewards, and it has created a fun, goal-oriented atmosphere in the classroom. The fidgets have also become an essential part of our day, helping students stay focused and regulate their energy during lessons. Seeing their excitement and appreciation for these materials has been heartwarming, and it reminds me how impactful these resources are in making learning enjoyable and accessible for all students.
The next steps for my students involve continuing to build on the progress they have made in math. When I first started this project, I had 15 students at various levels of math proficiency in my math special education classroom. Thanks to the resources we received, as well as intensive interventions, five students have already moved to the next math level, which is an incredible achievement! I anticipate that at least two more will reach this milestone by the end of the year, which is so exciting. This growth has allowed me to dedicate more one-on-one time to students who need additional support, ensuring that every student continues to make meaningful progress.
Currently, our co-taught classes have been working on algebraic expressions, and we are now transitioning to learning about angles. These new resources will continue to play a vital role in making these lessons engaging and accessible, helping students grasp complex concepts in a hands-on way. With the continued support of these materials, I am confident that my students will keep making significant strides in their mathematical abilities.
Thank you so much once again for the impact you've made for countless students and myself!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Addante
