Creating a Safe and Secure SEL Safe Haven for Students!
Funded Sep 10, 2024Thanks to your incredible support, our students have been thriving with the new SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) resources and room decor! The transformation in our "SEL Safe Haven" has been remarkable. Here's a glimpse into how your generosity has made a difference:
We've integrated the SEL materials into our daily routines and specific projects. For example, during our "Emotion Exploration" activity, students used the emotion cards and breathing prompts to identify their feelings and practice mindfulness. One student shared, "I feel calm when I use the breathing star—it helps me when I'm mad!" Moments like these show how these resources are helping students regulate their emotions and communicate more effectively.
When the students first walked into our newly decorated "safe haven", their faces lit up with excitement. One student exclaimed, "It feels so cozy and happy in here!" The calming corner has become a favorite space where students can take a break and use sensory tools to refocus. The bright, positive messages displayed around the room inspire students daily to embrace kindness and perseverance.
Currently, we are working on a collaborative project called "Kindness Counts." Students are using their SEL skills to write thank-you notes to staff members who've made an impact on them, learning how to express gratitude and recognize the efforts of others. Your contributions have not only enhanced their learning environment but are shaping compassionate, self-aware individuals.
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Your support is helping us create a brighter, more supportive campus community at Montgomery Elementary. We're excited to continue growing and sharing updates with you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Smith
