  • Engaging English Language Learners Reading in English

    I would like to thank you again for your donations to this project! My students were so excited every time we got a package with a book! They all wanted to be the first one to read the new book! My students were excited to dive in to the new characters, adventures, and plots that the new books offered them.

    Every day they are excited to come in to the classroom and read a book. They enjoy sharing their new found favorite characters or books with their friends, they love to huddle together to read a book together, not only sharing their literacy skills, but also engaging in language and growing their speaking abilities.

    My newcomers have become less reluctant to read in English and have seen that they, too, can read and complete a book in English that doesn't look like it's for a kindergartener! They are also finding the joy of reading in English!

  • Regulated and Reading!

    My students and I would like to thank our amazing supporters who allowed us to purchase materials for flexible seating! Students were thrilled when they saw the wiggle stools, cushions, bouncy bands, wobble chair feet, and fidget stickers.

    Students love having the option of what to use during reading groups. Older students have learned what works best for the body; for instance, they might start reading groups using a wobble stool, but halfway through group decide that their body does not need it anymore and switch to a regular chair with a bouncy band. Younger students are still learning how to regulate themselves!

    When students are quietly reading either independently or with a partner, they enjoy getting cozy with a cushion and their book.

    Students and I really appreciate the support you have given us. Seeing how they have learned to regulate themselves and learn to read their bodies has been great!”
