STEM Activity

Funded Oct 11, 2024

I hope this message finds you well. Thank you so much for your generosity. The students in my class are especially fond of playing with their devices and surfing the internet as their main entertainment when home. However, when I did present the STEM materials they were a bit hesitant at first, but after giving them the challenge of picking up the three different in size spheres they were excited. One particular student stated that this is the kind of project he loves.

Most teams were able to come up with a solution to pick up the three different size spheres and found that having the most fingers did not contribute to the success of the challenge. The class did come up with having three fingers with extra rubber bands between the joints proofed to be the optimal configuration, with two fingers being best for picking up the smallest sphere aka marble. They further discussed that having a four-fingers claw was good for picking up large objects that were too heavy for three or fewer fingers.

I am not sure if these STEM materials and projects lend themselves to improving my overall challenging class and students, but from what I can gather, I have had more frequent perfect attendance than before presenting the projects. As a former Project Lead the Way teacher, I do know that hands-on activities always pique students' interests. Thank you so much for changing my classroom environment.”

With gratitude,

Mr. TRAN
