The students used the play money to start their business and then set a budget for their business selling cookies, brownies and dog bones. They were excited when they saw the supplies and began to think of useful and creative ways to use them to create a profit.
Each group was given the same amount of money, this was to buy supplies needed to make the product. One they were done making them they sold them for real money and then turned in the money for play money to then again buy products to continue to grow their business.
We set time limits, pricing limits that everyone had to agree to. Once we were done with the two weeks each group presented their business plan and talked about their profits.”

We were able to start to use the items that were donated in the classroom this past week. I teach in a foods lab and the process of protecting the recipes while in the kitchen was something I had thought about in the past and was great full to put the plan into use.
We made fried rice and egg rolls. I was able to put the recipes in the clear protector pages that worked great while they were in the kitchens. I was able to use the colored files to organize recipes. The clips I used to hold the recipes together and the table worked as a grate place to set the recipes, ingredients and supplies on where students could take what they needed and return them when they were done for others to use.
This worked great and students really liked how the items you donated helped make everything more organized. We are looking forward to the next project and many more. Thank you for your generous donation.”

This week my students were given an opportunity to use the adjustable work station, scales and containers to help make brownies for the Home Coming School Dance. The organization that asked for us to make them brought us box brownie mix, eggs and butter. Knowing that we have meals planned to make and give to families that attend Parent Conferences we felt that this was a good way to practice the procedures.
Students decided to split the work up so that the process was streamlined and that they would work together on presentation and quality control. They had not worked with scales and caught on quickly. They all agreed that the scales and containers helped with keeping the portions equal. The adjustable table worked as a great prep area for packaging and a wonderful addition to our classroom.
They have plans to continue with projects that give back to the school or school community.”
