Ms. Camacho's Classroom Essentials
Funded Nov 21, 2024When I received my call from the Fiesta Bowl Charities saying I was one of the recipients to receive the grant for the 2024-2025 Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers I was at a loss of words. As I lost my composure for a second or two on the phone call I was filled with so much relief, joy, and excitement. I am a second year GeneralEd 5th grade teacher at Desert View Academy in Yuma, AZ. I have worked alongside the most impactful and talented women in the field of education. This grant money was going to not only change my life as a teacher, but the academic lives of my students.
Being able to provide a full classroom library where the students would be able to choose a variation of books to read was my ultimate goal. Helping students find the love in reading was important to me. I was allowed to compile various series into my library from "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" to "I Survived". Along with a classroom library I was able to provide my students with preferential seating. I have always wanted to create a classroom that students would consider a safe space and a second home. Seeing them have an opportunity to have the preferential seating during our novel studies and just throughout the day was something I wanted to work hard to provide them with.
Receiving this money was able to help fund a classroom full of kids that love to come to school to learn and have fun everyday. From simple things such as classroom incentives: candy, stickers, erasers, and more. To classroom supplies such as: dry erase markers, pencils, markers, colored pencils, eraser, and most importantly board games (indoor recess in Yuma, AZ due to consistent heat advisories). Headphones and other necessities for students that are not fortunate enough to to provide for themselves was also factored into my grant money.
I will be eternally grateful to have been a recipient for this grant and have been given the opportunity to provide my students with a place they feel comfortable and safe in. This grant not only helped me provide my students with new supplies, but it allowed me to give my students the classroom they deserve. I was moved by such a gracious grant and couldn't have been more pleased to be a recipient of it. I will continue to be an educator that strives to reach the minds and hearts of every child that walks into my classroom. Thank you for the opportunity of a lifetime.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Camacho
