  • An UnFURgettable Journey With Books

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

Thank you so much for donating the novel A Boy Called Bat to my classroom. The impact has been amazing to witness! My whole class loved the story and was captivated by the protagonist, Bat, but seeing how my reluctant readers connected with the story was especially meaningful. These students who often avoid or dread reading could not wait to dive back into the story each day after recess. Watching their excitement brought me so much joy as a teacher.

The book touched on many important themes. One of the most important was how the main character's autism was portrayed with care and authenticity. Another memorable element was the book's exploration of Bat's family dynamic, including his parents' divorce and his routine of spending every other Friday at his dad's house. One student in particular connected deeply with this part of the story as his parents recently separated. It gave him a sense of comfort and validation and opened up meaningful conversations about family with the entire class.

Your generosity has made a profound impact on my classroom by fostering a love of reading and sparking important discussions. My students will carry the experience of reading this story with them for a long time. Thank you for your kindness and for making such a difference in their learning experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cara
