Into to the Arena: Comparing Ancient Rome &The Hunger Games
Funded Oct 11, 2024Thank you for your generous donation of a class set of The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. These days, in the world of social media, instant gratification, and online access to just about anything, it is especially important that we do everything we can to encourage reading and ENJOYING reading.
Having the books in print enables my students to dig into the novel in a different way than just listening to the audio book or watching the movie. My goal is to help them understand the connections between fact and fiction, past and present (and even future), and I'm positive that the novel will enhance their learning of Ancient Rome, the hero's journey, and what it means when someone says, "Oh! I love to read!"
Thank you again for your support!!”

All Creatures Great & Small: Caring for a Classroom Pet
Funded Oct 8, 2024I created my project "All Creatures Great and Small" so that my sixth grade classroom could experience having a class pet (or class pets, in this case.) I never imagined it would turn out to be such an impactful experience.
All of the students are enamored of the rabbits, everyone is fascinated by their size and their demeanor. The house that we erected for them has enabled all students in our school to have daily access to the rabbits, and our sixth graders take great pride in caring for them and being responsible for them. They often are teaching the older students how to approach the rabbits, how to be patient with them, how to act around them, and how to care for them.
The biggest reward is how some of our more challenging students have created strong bonds with the rabbits and spend time with them every day. These students also love to feed and water the rabbits, and watch over them. It gives the students a purpose, and it has helped to improve their behavior and mood through caring for another creature and being able to sit and spend some gentle time with them.
I could not have asked for a better outcome, and I appreciate all of your generosity in sponsoring my project!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hyder
