  • Camp Chair Reading While Sipping Water!

    My students are absolutely loving being able to sit in comfortable chairs around the classroom and enjoy their independent chapter books. Many of my 6th graders are from low-income families and do not have a lot of things of their own, so being able to provide them each with a water bottle of their own was so exciting! I saw so many of my students' eyes light up when I explained to them that all of this stuff was donated.

    Knowing how many companies and individual people are helping teachers create a learning environment that we know is crucial in a child's life is overwhelming. One of my next projects will be starting to collect more classroom book sets to read together as a class in our chairs.

The neighborhood school I am currently teaching at has a variety of cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, home life situations, etc. To give a little insight, I have a few students that live in million dollar homes on the ocean bluff, while the rest of the students live in a large trailer park. I have many Hmong, Spanish, Native, and Greek speakers within my classroom. Although there are many unique situations, the school as a whole is quite cohesive.

About my class
