Chavez Coffee Cart Service

I don't think there are words to describe how thankful we are for all of your support! This project has turned into so much more than we could've ever imagined! When I first told my kids about the coffee cart I wanted to start this year they were so excited! They began working on designing flyers, menus, posters and digital announcements for our upcoming project and they all looked amazing! Once our materials arrived and our vision was becoming a reality, their excitement was so immense!

The purpose of these carts were to give our special ed students an opportunity to work on their vocational skills. Since starting this project, the kids have learned how to check inventory, prepare orders, work on customer service, count money and make change, work on their social interactions, cleaning and taking care of materials and how to make coffee. The first week we started our service we had amazing reviews from all of our staff! Our kids absolutely loved doing it and the teachers were so impressed with what our kids were able to accomplish! Since then we have done coffee cart services once a week every week and it's the first thing the kids ask me about on Mondays, "when do we get to do coffee cart this week?" The way the kids confidence has grown since starting our project is so incredible. They were so shy in the beginning and now they are so eager to interact with the people they are serving!

Our cart continues to grow with each week and nit how now turned into a club named, The Barista Buddies. The club gives students in the general ed population to mentor and support our sped students with the tasks required for the coffee cart so they can become more independent as well as becoming more comfortable interacting with their peers. We are so excited to see how far we can take our project and we want to say a very big thank you for making all of this possible!”
