Creating a Better Community Through Kindness
Funded Oct 2, 2024Thank you so much for the generous grant from Donors Choose. Your support has empowered the Friends of Rachel Club to expand our kindness initiatives, allowing us to create welcome bags for new students, send personalized letters to elderly residents and troops, and spread uplifting messages around our school with sidewalk chalk.
The students were excited to open the packages containing the materials to create holiday cards for our local nursing home residents and cards to place in our elementary students' food backpacks. In addition, they were particularly excited to make friendship bracelets to add to our new student welcome bags that our club creates.
We are excited to deepen our impact and honor Rachel Scott's legacy of kindness, all thanks to your contribution.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lucas

Funded Sep 26, 2024Thank you for the supplies to stock our Friends of Rachel Closet. Students of Altoona High School can "shop" for free for clothing, snacks, toiletries, gloves, hats, shoes, and school supplies. We usually receive many clothing donations, but donations for new toiletries and snacks are scarcer. Your funding allowed us to provide snacks and toiletries for many needy students.
Many of our female students were relieved that we had replenished our supply of feminine products. We often have students who will miss school when they have their periods. Students were also thankful to have full-size deodorants. They were most excited to have snacks for the evenings and weekends. The Pop-Tarts were a big hit!
To replenish our stock, our Friends of Rachel Club plans on reaching out to several community organizations to ask for help. With winter weather quickly approaching, many of our local organizations will supply our closet with hats and gloves.
Thank you again for your generous contribution to our closet!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lucas
