Visual Supports for Student Independence

My students are becoming more independent in managing their time throughout our day! I see them referring to our schedule and checking our visual timer.

Having our schedule posted is such an important support for our class. Now, with pointer magnets and a streamlined, pocket chart system, they can easily see where we are, what's coming up, and note any changes in our day. Our next steps will include adding student-created picture cards and an analogue clock next to each item. Resources needed are right there, too, on our magnetic shelves.

Our large, magnetic visual timer is fabulous. It can be seen no matter where students are learning in our classroom. It helps me keep the pacing of my teaching on track, and it helps students manage their work time.

These resources have been an excellent addition to support independence in our classroom!”
