Alto Xylophone for the Knight ES RockSTARS!
Funded Aug 19, 2024Thank you for your generous contribution for our school's music program. With your financial support, our school was able to purchase an additional alto xylophone to add to our instrument collection. Not only does this enable all of our students to have a wider variety of instrument types and timbres to choose from in our general music classes, but it also opened up an additional slot in our extracurricular music ensemble, the school Orff Club! Our newest member, a third grade student with a lot of talent already and great potential, is ecstatic to have been given a chance to join the group!
Our school's Orff Club focuses on guiding the students through a creative approach to the music-making process. Rather than giving students sheet music to follow, learning songs by rote and repetition, the Orff Club utilizes elements of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music. We have used body percussion to learn the melodic patterns, incorporated singing and simple repeated rhythmic patterns to accompany melodies, and even had opportunities to explore movement and dance and how they might be used in our upcoming programs for Veterans Day and our WinterFest celebration. With a greater focus on experiencing music BEFORE introducing musical literacy skills, students are able to contribute and be successful regardless of their prior musical skills. We even have a student in the group whose primary language is Spanish, and he has been making great progress on our upcoming songs!
Thank you for your support of our school music program. The students are incredibly excited for our upcoming concerts, and I know that they will do a fantastic job. Thanks to you, we have one additional student who will have an opportunity to share in the magic!”

Funded Aug 7, 2024Thank you very much for your support of our music students! Using some of the various instruments and materials that you helped us to purchase, we were able to create sound stories with our second grade students and reinforce the steady beat with our Kindergarten students. Some of our fourth and fifth grade students even used these materials in their group composition projects from last unit! We LOVE having our new instruments added to our collection. Thank you for your support!
The fun doesn't stop there though! In springtime, our first grade students will be using the thunder drums as we work through our weather unit. Our music ensemble students in the Orff Club and Chorus Club may even use them for songs and pieces for our Spring concert. It's sure to be a great time, and it wouldn't have been possible without your help and support.”
