  • Sensory Tools for Healing: Supporting Students Who Have Experienced Trauma

    Funded Aug 11, 2024

The addition of fidget toys, stress balls, and flexible seating to my classroom has made a remarkable impact on students' well-being and engagement. Fidget toys and stress balls have allowed students to manage their stress and self-regulate their emotions without disrupting the class. This has led to improved concentration, fewer outbursts, and an overall more positive classroom atmosphere.

Flexible seating has further transformed the learning environment by offering students a sense of choice, which is important for those who have traumatic experiences. The wobble chairs have helped students stay engaged while learning. The combined use of these resources has fostered a safe, supportive space where students feel understood and empowered, allowing them to participate more fully and confidently in their education.”

I am extremely grateful for your generous support of our Donors Choose project, Supporting ELL Students with Translation Technology. Your donation will make a tremendous impact on our 6th grade AVID classroom, where over 50 of our students are English Language Learners. • Supplying Our Future: Basic Needs for a Diverse Classroom

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

The materials received through this project have had an incredible impact on student learning and engagement. With the supplies, my students were able to create visually rich and creative projects, such as one-pagers for the poem Jabberwocky. These one-pagers allowed students to express their understanding of the poem's themes, create illustrations of key scenes, and explore the use of nonsense words in a fun, engaging way.

For my diverse classroom, the materials made the activity accessible to all. The creative supplies helped them break down language barriers and better grasp the abstract elements of the poem, allowing them to demonstrate comprehension through art, reflection, and group collaboration. The project increased their confidence, fostered creativity, and encouraged participation in the lesson!

The visual aspect of the one-pager activity empowered students who struggle with traditional text-based learning, giving them an alternative method to express their understanding and ideas, resulting in a more inclusive learning environment.”

  • Empower 6th Graders With Essential Paper Supplies for Success

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of our AVID classroom through the "Empower 6th Graders With Essential Paper Supplies for Success" project. The new resources have already been put to great use in some exciting and creative ways!

Recently, our students used the paper supplies for two engaging team-building activities. In one, they were challenged to build a paper table that could hold as many cell phones as possible. It was amazing to see them collaborate, problem-solve, and experiment with different strategies to strengthen their designs. Their teamwork and critical thinking really shined!

Another activity, called "The Marker is Lava," pushed students to work together as a group to maneuver a marker using only strings to draw a picture—another fantastic demonstration of cooperation and focus.

When the students first saw all the new materials, their excitement was contagious! Having these supplies has allowed them to dive into hands-on, interactive lessons that help build their skills in creativity, collaboration, and leadership.

Looking ahead, these resources will continue to support our students as they tackle more projects and challenges. Our next step is to incorporate these materials into upcoming AVID lessons where they will focus on building organizational skills and completing in-depth group assignments.

Thank you again for making this possible—your support truly empowers our students and enriches their learning experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hogan
