Social Emotional Learning for Speech

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the contributions you made to help me upgrade my social emotional toolbox for my students at Hazeltine Ave ES. I am humbled and grateful for your generosity.

One of the resources we received is a set of beautiful emotion cards which I have displayed on the wall in a pocket chart. We use it during our social communication activities (i.e. while reading a book or short story). We ask ourselves how a character might be feeling and the students can go over to the wall to choose a feeling they think connects. The cards have written explanations on the back which the students can read to see if it fits with the situation at hand. We then talk about how they can react or deal with the situation.

Other materials received include games for student practice of relevant skills. The students are really engaged in the materials. I look forward to helping them increase their social emotional skills and hopefully be able to use them in real life situations that they find themselves.”
