Incentivizing Art

Funded Jul 15, 2024

Your donations have provided my students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a cultural rich, informative, and engaging classroom. In the first couple of weeks, students have utilized the color, line, and shape posters in order to help better understand the basic elements of art. For example, second grade created shape collages using pencils to draw lines to create various shapes, scissors to cut out and form their shapes from various colored construction paper, and glue to combine engaging shapes and colors. We plan to continue our learning by using the various posters to learn about different artist and styles influenced by the region each piece of art was created in.

When my students first saw my room decorated with the new materials, every class was excited, surprised, and amazed. This is my first year teaching, so students were very vocal in letting me know that the previous art teacher did not have decorations or items displayed in the classroom. The first day I had students practice observing and discussing their observations with their peers. Students observed the room and discussed. Some of the things I heard included informative information about specific pieces of art (which surprised me that some students knew some of the artists) but also amazement how different and engaging the classroom is compared to last year.”

With gratitude,

Mr. Nicolaus
