Building Mrs. Alston's Thinking Classroom!

Funded Jul 3, 2024

Thank you so much for contributing to my Building a Thinking Classroom project. I was so excited upon the arrival of the materials. I hung the white boards on the walls right away.

As research has proven, students learn math better and experience more meaningful collaboration through the use of vertical, non-permanent surfaces when completing complex math tasks. My students are proof that this strategy really works! They love when it is time to use the white boards. They get so excited and all students are thoroughly engaged in thinking through the math task.

This year, I have seen my students really excel in their math and I think this is largely due to the white boards that you helped fund for my classroom. With each new skill we teach, we put the students in random groups of 3 with a task related to the upcoming skill. 90% of the time, they teach themselves the content we are trying to get them to learn before we even talk about it! These boards have transformed my teaching practice and revolutionized the way students think and learn in my classroom!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Alston
