The 30 dry erase boards, markers, and erasers will be used every day in our math class. While this item is not a new technological device and does not sound very innovative, it is crucial to Math class. When I say, "Let's get out the dry erase boards," students smile, get motivated, and become instantly engaged. We use boards for daily computation, structured activities like "Showdown" (in which students work together and then show their response), or for drawing mathematical models. A large part of education is motivating the students. If I hand my students a piece of paper or worksheet, they don't get excited. But white boards? Fifth graders absolutely them them! I have to brag a little; when my students have a free five minutes at the end of the day, many will get out a white board and marker. Then they proceed to make up their own math problems to solve. They think this is fun! At the present time, my students have old, used dry erase boards. They are permanently stained and it can be difficult to read what is written. We struggle to have enough markers because they wear out extremely quickly when you have 71 students.
