Chapter Books & Unique History Stories
Funded Aug 29, 2024Thank you again for supporting my classroom, especially my class's library! The students have already really enjoyed many of the books, which I read after lunch and before we dismiss for the day. It's a part of their day that they love, especially when they can connect to the story. One of the biggest favorites was "Lunch From Home".
They were amazed that the book was a collaboration between four people who went on to become chefs and business owners, celebrating the foods they grew up with. Many of my students have Hispanic or Chin backgrounds, so seeing similar experiences in literature means a lot to them. As someone who had some "weird" foods growing up as well, I do too. This led to a whole conversation about appreciating heritages that are different than ours and how differences make the world better.
I cannot wait to read the other books during Asian Pacific Islander Month and the general Thanksgiving to connect to the rest of our learning during those times. I know my students will love the stories and have more amazing questions to ask.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Allison
Ms. Allison's 2024 Classroom Improvements
Funded Jun 17, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donations! The items have already made a great impact in my classroom. During our first House Rally of the school year, we were able to make sure students sensitive to noises in our class had headphones and another student from another class was able to borrow a pair too! The privacy folders have already helped curb any accusations of cheating or copying, which was something I dealt with again and again last year. Now, they use them to help concentrate on their writing!
The pencil sharpener is the most hilarious addition: they still cannot believe that it takes three seconds to sharpen a pencil and I hear them counting at the end of the day. The anchor chart paper has been great as well, as I have used it collaboratively with the students. They love that they can walk up to the anchor charts, even in the hallways, and interact with their own work. The styluses work really well too, and not just on assessments: during free time today (a surprise they earned), they were using them to draw, color, and play on Sushi Monster (a math game).
Thank you again for your generous donations to our classroom. It's already been a smoother year!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Allison
